Whose air are we cleaning?
Clean air is counted in person·µg/m³ (p·µg/m³) — µg/m³ of pollution avoided, weighted by how many people breathe it.
What changes when you pick a different place
One person·µg/m³ is one person breathing one microgram per cubic metre less fine-particle pollution for a year. Pick the place the curve is priced for: every intervention is re-scored by what it delivers to the people who live there — the whole Bay Area, or a single county. Bigger is better.

Honesty ledger — what is assumed here
① Every pollutant falls together — a plan that cuts X% of an asset's
CO₂ is assumed to cut X% of its soot- and smog-forming emissions (SO₂, NOx, ammonia, VOCs,
PM) too. That is a modeling assumption, not sourced data: Climate TRACE's per-asset
emission-reduction plans exist but are permission-locked to this project (verified
2026-07-18), and those plans cover CO₂ only. Real per-asset plans replace this assumption
when access lands.
② 30% is cuttable — the same flat, invented depth is applied to
every asset, rather than an asset-by-asset engineering estimate. The Ceiling at 30% cut
figure on the right is what that depth would buy across every intervention, including the
small grouped ones no budget on this page can reach.
③ Dollar prices (only in $ mode): industry $4k/t · power $3k/t ·
agriculture $800/t · waste $1.5k/t · other $5k/t — round numbers chosen to demonstrate the
budget slider, not cost data. A bar's plotted price in that mode is its band × tonnes cut ÷
clean air bought. Climate TRACE's real cost curve covers CO₂ only, is still
under construction, and has no power-sector coverage yet; it replaces these bands when it
lands.
What is real: the modeled pollution-transport (source→receptor)
matrix, the asset locations, Climate TRACE's 2025 emissions tonnes, and every piece of
benefit arithmetic built on top of ①+②.
